The Virginia Bankers Association (VBA) is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to manage daily accounting operations, month-end close, and financial reporting for multiple entities. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional with strong general ledger, reconciliation, and leadership experience who thrives in an in-office environment. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with GAAP, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. The Senior Accountant reports to the CFO and supervises accounting staff.
What You’ll Do
Manage the Accountant and A/P & A/R Specialist
Serve as the primary point of contact for all banking relationships
Prepare and review advanced journal entries, allocations, and multi-entity reconciliations
Lead the monthly insurance premium collection process and manage end-to-end claims payment activities
Produce timely, accurate monthly financial statements for multiple entities
Perform variance analysis and support annual budget preparation
Prepare audit schedules and PBC documentation
Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and VBA policies
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Payroll & AP/AR Oversight
Oversee and approve multi-entity payroll processing
Complete semi-monthly payroll processing for two entities
Coordinate payroll activities with the Accountant
Review GL coding of payments, vendor reconciliations, AR billing, and deposit documentation
Hybrid work schedule available for 3 days in office and 2 days remote at the discretion of the manager
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience
Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting
Advanced reconciliation and month-end close experience
Proven financial reporting and variance analysis skills
