Your new role As a Banking Lawyer / Senior Banking Lawyer, you will provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of regulatory and compliance matters impacting a retail banking business. Key responsibilities will include:
Advising on regulatory requirements, legal risks, and compliance obligations across consumer lending and financial products
Supporting the business in identifying, assessing and mitigating legal and regulatory risks
Reviewing incidents and advising on breach reporting obligations to relevant regulators
Managing legal disputes and liaising with external legal counsel where required
Reviewing product documentation, marketing materials, and operational practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws and industry standards
Partnering with internal stakeholders to provide strategic legal input and enable business outcomes
Assisting with regulatory reporting and maintaining strong engagement with external advisors.
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Admission to practice in Australia, with an unrestricted practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one)
Minimum of 2-3 years' PAE for a role at the Lawyer level, OR a minimum of 5 years' PAE at the Senior Lawyer level
Previous legal experience in retail banking
Strong knowledge of banking and financial services regulation and compliance frameworks
Proven ability to provide clear, pragmatic, and commercial legal advice to non-legal stakeholders
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
High levels of professionalism, discretion and ability to handle sensitive matters
