Private Credit (Underwriting, Portfolio Management & Workouts)
Location: Boston, MA
Reports To: Head of Underwriting & Portfolio
Position Overview
The VP | Director will play a key role across underwriting, portfolio management, and workout/restructuring activities within the firm’s private credit platform. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in corporate secured lending – cash flow or/and
asset-based lending. The VP | Director will drive rigorous deal analysis, disciplined portfolio oversight, and support capital preservation and recovery strategies across performing and non-performing assets. The role requires strong analytical abilities, credit judgment, and effective coordination with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Execution
**Lead underwriting workstreams and conduct detailed credit due diligence for new investment opportunities.
**Evaluate company fundamentals, cash flow drivers, leverage capacity, collateral coverage, and downside risks.
**Build and review financial models, and sensitize projections.
**Work with legal counsel on credit agreements, collateral documentation, and intercreditor arrangements.
**Prepare and present underwriting materials and investment committee memoranda, articulating thesis, risks, structural protections, and expected returns.
Portfolio & Risk Management
**Manage an assigned portfolio of credit investments, monitoring borrower performance, covenant compliance, and collateral trends.
**Maintain and update internal credit ratings, watchlists, and key performance metrics.
**Participate in periodic portfolio reviews and contribute to internal valuations and investor reporting.
**Identify early warning signals and collaborate with senior team members to implement proactive risk-mitigation strategies.
Workouts, Restructurings & Special Situations
**Support workout, restructuring, and recovery strategies for underperforming or distressed loans.
**Assist in developing and executing strategies such as amendments, recapitalizations, restructurings, and debt-to-equity conversions.
**Coordinate with external advisors, consultants, legal teams, and CROs to help maximize recoveries.
**Analyze secondary market opportunities, distressed exchanges, and opportunistic financing scenarios.
**Support special situations transactions such as bridge loans, DIP financings, and structured capital solutions.
Strategic Contribution & Leadership
**Provide insights on credit risk, deal structuring, and market trends to inform underwriting and portfolio decisions.
**Mentor and guide analysts and associates on credit analysis, modeling, due diligence, and restructuring concepts.
**Collaborate across underwriting, risk, and portfolio teams to enhance processes and frameworks.
Qualifications
**8 to 15 years of experience in direct secured lending or private credit.
**Strong background in cash flow and/or asset-based lending, and legal documentation.
**Experience supporting workouts, restructurings, or recovery processes within a lending or private credit environment.
**Robust understanding of credit documentation, security packages, and restructuring mechanisms (e.g., Chapter 11, Article 9).
**Advanced financial modeling, valuation, and scenario analysis skills.
**Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics; MBA, CFA, or CPA preferred.
